Cathay Pacific releases traffic figures for April

Cathay Pacific Airways carried 1,030,456 passengers in April, the first time the airline has carried more than one million passengers in a single month. This surpassed the previous monthly record of 998,424 passengers set in August 1996. Cathay Pacific carried 3.81 million passengers in the first four months of 2000, up 9.3% over the same period in 1999. The passenger load factor was 75.7% compared to 68.4% for the same period last year.

Cargo operations also continued to perform well with 63,242 tonnes carried in April, bringing the year-to-date total to 234,861 tonnes, up 12.4% over 1999.

Cathay Pacific's General Manager Network Revenue Ian Shiu said: "A million passengers in a single month is a new record for Cathay Pacific. It reaffirms the strength of the regional economic recovery and our success in attracting more business across our global network. We are moving ahead with our plans to mount additional capacity to meet growing demand, increasing our fleet from 65 to 77 wide-body aircraft by September 2001."
