Cathay Pacific Airways is the Official Airline and Gala Dinner sponsor for an important conference being held in Hong Kong this week. The "Greener Skies 2007" on 29-30 March will see key figures in the Asia Pacific aviation industry come together to discuss how regional aviation organisations should respond to the airline emissions debate.
The forum is being organised by leading regional commercial aviation magazine Orient Aviation and will see major policy, strategy and operations players and experts from around the world gather in Hong Kong to discuss the industry position on emissions and its potential impact on climate change. The issue is likely to come increasingly under the spotlight in the Asia Pacific region, currently the world's largest growth zone for commercial aviation.
Cathay Pacific will have a considerable presence at the forum, with the airline's Chief Executive Philip Chen delivering the opening speech on Thursday. Later in the morning, Chief Operating Officer Tony Tyler will participate in the Airline Chiefs' Panel Discussion, where panellists will offer their analysis of the particular challenges facing Asia-Pacific aviation and come up with potential solutions to the problems created by climate change.
Among the other speakers, Andrew Herdman, Director General of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, will address specific challenges impacting on Asia-Pacific aviation, while Dr Philippe Rochat, Executive Director of the Air Transport Action Group and Director of IATA's Aviation Environment Department, will examine the implications of emissions trading for airline operations in the Asia-Pacific.
The conference will conclude with a press conference at noon on Friday, 30 March chaired by IATA Director-General & CEO Giovanni Bisignani. Mr. Bisignani will also be the keynote speaker at the Cathay Pacific-sponsored "Greener Skies" dinner on Thursday.
