Dragonair has been voted "World's Best Regional Airline" in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards™ programme for the third time. No other airline has achieved this feat since this category was added to the awards in 2010. In a double honour for Dragonair, the carrier was also named "Best Regional Airline in Asia" in the same survey.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards™ is the largest airline passenger satisfaction survey and the most prestigious among all the surveys measuring airline service excellence. Based on the votes of more than 18 million airline passengers from more than 160 countries, the survey covered more than 200 airlines and assessed customer-service standards across more than 40 criteria including check-in, boarding, onboard seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food and beverages, inflight entertainment and staff service.
Dragonair Chief Executive Officer Patrick Yeung expressed his pride and pleasure at the award ceremony held at the Paris Air Show on today. "It is a great honour to receive such recognition from travellers, and on behalf of Dragonair I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for us," he said. "We are extremely proud to share this achievement with the people of Hong Kong, the city that has been our home for 28 years."
Mr Yeung said the awards were a reflection of the great teamwork displayed by Dragonair staff. "What won us the recognition from Skytrax is the hard work, commitment and professionalism of our frontline staff and those who support the operation behind the scenes, from flight crew and engineers to our airport, operations and management teams. They should all feel very proud.
"Service and products play an important part in the overall passenger experience, and we are working hard to enhance these on every front. The huge investments we are making to provide superior products and services highlight our commitment to the long-term expansion and development of Dragonair, and to boosting the development of the Hong Kong hub," Mr Yeung added.
As part of a continuous effort to provide the best travel experience for its customers, Dragonair is embarking on a full-scale inflight product enhancement which will see the introduction of new Business Class and Economy Class cabins on most of its aircraft, together with a brand-new on-demand inflight entertainment system, StudioKA.
In addition to the product upgrade, Dragonair has also been busy expanding its network. The airline has launched or resumed 12 destinations since April 2012, marking the biggest expansion in the carrier's history. "We will continue to expand our network and strengthen frequencies where possible, offering increased connectivity and greater convenience for customers travelling through Hong Kong," Mr Yeung said.
Dragonair, an affiliate member of oneworld, is a Hong Kong-based airline operating a fleet of 39 passenger aircraft and serving 45 regional destinations, including 22 cities in Mainland China. Dragonair has been recognised for its product and service quality, and was named the "Best Regional Airline" at the TTG Travel Awards 2012, and voted thrice as "World's Best Regional Airline" in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards™ in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
