Swire Opens First Mövenpick Ice-Cream Boutique in Mainland China

Swire Foods Group, a business unit of Swire Pacific Limited (HKSE: 00019/00087), today announced the launch of Mainland China's first Mövenpick Ice-Cream Boutique in TaiKoo Hui, a shopping mall located in Tianhe District, Guangzhou. Offered at the 59-square-metre retail store is a spectrum of 17 delicious Mövenpick ice-creams and sorbets, which can be enjoyed as individual scoops or in gourmet desserts. A variety of surprising savoury recipes are also available, in combination with coffees and smoothies.

"It instils Mövenpick's premium brand culture among consumers by delivering a new gourmet experience, which is further amplified by the boutique's modern interiors, heartfelt service and, of course, the brand's amazingly delicious flavours."

Swire Foods Group has been an exclusive distributor of Mövenpick ice-cream products in Mainland China since August 2015. "While distribution to HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant and Café) remains our key sales channel," Lau elaborated, "we believe that a direct retail presence is a crucial part of our strategy in enhancing the Swiss brand in Mainland China, helping fuel our future expansion."

The ice-cream market in Mainland Chinaovertook the USA in 2014 to become the biggest in the world. However, the latest research revealed an annual consumption of only 4 litres for the average Chinese, in contrast to the USA, where the annual average is 18.4 litres per consumer. In view of the Mainland's relatively low consumption per capita, Lau continues to perceive attractive growth opportunities in this market.

The first Mövenpick Ice-Cream Boutique is located at M23 of TaiKoo Hui, Guangzhou, while the second is due to open in HKRI Taikoo Hui, Shanghai in the second quarter of 2017.
